Recently I had to travel to Atlanta on business, so needless to say I did not have the ability to carry a bunch of photo gear with me. As I pulled into the hotel I was staying at I noticed the great looking cloud formations in the evening sky and how they were reflecting off a mirrored building across the street from the hotel. I remember saying boy; I wish I had my Nikon with me, and then remembered I have my iPhone 4s. So after a quick change I went out and did my own photo walk in a nearby corporate park full of reflective buildings. My intentions were to capture the images of the clouds and bring them back with me to the room where I could further work on them in Snapseed on my iPad, so I was ready to go…

Like we have all learned when you are shooting always look behind you, which might be the best shot. Well, behind me at this one building was a set of stairs leading down to their own private pond for the employees of that building. The landscaping was fantastic and these stairs looked great. I knew right away I have to get an image of these and process it into black and white.

I tried to capture just the stairs so you could not tell where they led to. I didn’t want to show any parking lots or anything like that. I wanted to capture the rough stone feel at an angle where I couldn’t tell what was at the top.

The processing was all done on The New iPad within Snapseed run through the black and white filters as well as a small crop to further enhance the direction of the stairs. The app used to capture the image was Camera+ which is a great app because you can set your exposure and focus separately right on the app, one of my favorites…

I have received numerous responses on this image through 500px and Flickr and I use it to remind me I don’t have to have all the gear to capture a good image, I just need the time to get out there and shoot with what I have…
